Richard D'Anjolell has been receiving rave reviews and radio airplay across the country with the release of his full length disc,  NC 28465. The critically acclaimed album features fifteen professionally recorded well crafted songs written and performed by Richard D’Anjolell and some of the most outstanding musicians from Wilmington, NC. Imagine if Mathew Sweet was kidnapped by The Replacements and held for ransom by The Who and you can get a sense of what is happening here. Kicking off with the contagious hooks of "Sweetheart", an honest tale culminated from numerous lost relationships.  The song is perfect for the ending title sequence for a movie combining a big drum sound with luscious harmonies and soaring guitars.  "Hanging Out With You", the second track on the disc is the first song Mr. D'Anjolell wrote when he moved to Wilmington, NC and captures the rockabilly groove of the local music scene. The third track, “Mediocrity Reigns” has some influences from Led Zeppelin and The Alarm. It is used in the horror slasher film, “Butchered”.  This song was inspired by one of the many average bands that graced the stage of The Mad Monk in it's last dying days as a live music venue.  It is an anthem to all those that are almost famous.  The next track, "Emma's Butterfly Song" has a raw early Rolling Stone's sound and sheds light on the relationship Richard had with one of the original hosts of The View tv show.  It has a Weezer like familiarity in the chorus which makes for a memorable tongue in cheek time.  The fifth song on the disc, "Valentine", is a fairly bare bones straight ahead classic rock song that is an ode to the mistakes we all have made. Track six, "Like A Circle" is an anthem for anyone that needs to pick themselves up off the floor and start to run again.  Combined with sweeping guitars and a driving beat it has received the most airplay so far from the release and is a modern rock favorite. "Otherside of Town", track seven captures the jam band feel of the late 90's and the life of a young man in a new place.  There is some great musicianship on this track. The eighth cut, "World In Your Hands" is a testament to the power we all have to make a difference and is a AAA break out single. The song has some nice dynamics and an anthem in it's own right.  "Love2Love" is a 1/4/5 Blues progression that Mr. D'Anjolell wrote many years ago so that when he went to jam nights he could throw out an original song that everyone could follow.  The production and musical expertise of the recording allow this track to stand up to be played on any Blues or Rock show.  It's catchy and it has soul.  Track ten, "Precious" is a song that we all can relate to in the context of the human condition.  This was the first single from the Six AOR singles EP and is an Album Oriented Rock hit.  "True Love" has a harder bite to it and is the most alternative rock sounding song on the disc.  It features thick guitars and a deeper vocal performance akin to Joy Division.  Track twelve, "Kings New Robe" was originally released as an Almighty ShuHorN song and is rerecorded on this disc.  The song pays homage to Don McClain, The Beatles, and the hippie generation.  "Mother Margaret" is a fictitious story about a nun that is expelled from society because of lies the children tell.  Lyrically it is a compelling tale and musically it is an up tempo R&B influenced garage rocker. Track fourteen, "Like Argentina" was totally rewritten in the studio and is the first co-write between Mr. D'Anjolell and guitarist Tommy Brothers.  The song was featured in a video that captured the fall of SC Governor Sanford when he ran off to Argentina with his mistress. "Katie Mae", the last track on the disc showcases some first class lead guitar work and was written about Richard's first daughter Katie being born.  It's a classic rock song that stands the test of time.

Recently, Richard has been co-writing material with Michele Seidman from Women of Blues.  They expect to release an EP before the end of 2012. Currently, Mr. D’Anjolell has been mixing down material for “Lofi-Scifi” featuring Six Sigma, Mr. Grimms and the kids, and other guest artists. Mr. Richard D'Anjolell performs about 50 live shows a year and has been testing out new songs on the audience in preparation of recording a new full length album.

Great American Alternapop
by Donna Cohen
Guitar oriented americana alterna pop that moves from infectious harmony laden choruses, "Sweet Heart" to blues, "Love to Love, to Led Zep style guitar rock, "Mediocrity Reigns". D'Anjolell and his group of musicians deliver the goods in both performances and songwriting.

This nicely folksy and tuneful pop-rock album mines a pleasantly engaging line in catchy, dynamic melodies, sunny singing, and upbeat lyrics. The vocals convey a winning sense of sheer infectious joy and vigor. The arrangements are likewise quite tasty and dynamic, with ringing guitars, steady drums, and smooth basslines delivering plenty of snappy tempos and constant bouncy beats. Moreover, there’s a sweet feeling of honesty and sincerity evident throughout that’s impossible to either resist or dislike. A nifty little treat.

A "today-radio" flavor it is also unique, energetic, and well produced.
Who the hell do these guys think they are releasing a CD that I can't stop listening to??? I mean I DO have a day job ya know :) There is truly not a song on this "Six Song Teaser" that I didn't enjoy. The musicianship is tremendously impressive, the arrangements are stellar and the songwriting is some of the most lyrically intelligent and melodically engaging songs I have had the pleasure of reviewing in quite a while. Besides being one of the most evolving creative and busy spirits in Wilmington, Richard D' has spent his time wisely not only putting out a product that has a "today-radio" flavor it is also unique, energetic, and well produced using some of the most talented musicians and collaborators in the area such as John Wade on Drums, Tommy Brothers of Audio Genesis on Guitar and Terry Nash of "Heart and Soul" on his Hammond B3; all of which add some meat that cannot be replaced. Richards vocals are very clear and listener friendly, which happens to be one of my favorite aspects of a song and Richards pipes leave nothing for me to desire :) "Precious are the pleading moments when we realize what we're saying seems to make a lot of sense- when the words come out forming brilliant phrases leaving us to feel so intelligent." Hit Picks: "Precious", "World In Your Hands" Annette Warner-WilmingtonNCMusic.com
